
Als Emil Gilels 1985 im Alter von nur 68 Jahren plötzlich starb, verlor die Welt einen der bedeutendsten Pianisten des 20. Jahrhunderts. Noch heute, mehr als 20 Jahre nach seinem Tod ist er all jenen in lebendiger Erinnerung, die das Glück hatten, ihn im Konzert erleben zu dürfen. Der Titan der russischen Klaviertradition ist längst zur Legende geworden. Dieses Projekt ist dem Andenken an Emil Gilels gewidmet. Erinnerungen verschiedener Persönlichkeiten, sowie unbekanntes und größtenteils unveröffentlichtes Bild- und Tonmaterial zeichnen ein vielschichtiges und spannendes Bild des genialen Musikers.
The sudden death of Emil Gilels in 1985 at the age of 68 robbed the world of one of the greatest pianists of the twentieth century. Even today more than 20 years after his death he is vividly remembered by those who were lucky enough to have heard him in person. A titan of the Russian piano tradition has now become a legend.
This project is dedicated to the memory of Emil Gilels. It contains many personal reflections and as yet unpublished photos and recordings, all of which contribute to a more complete picture of this diverse and brilliant musician.
Michael Poliatskin went to Moscow to meet family Gilels. He scanned more than 1000 documents. They will be published on this website.
